She was born April 22, 1937, in Waterman, IL, and was the daughter of Merton and Ida (Monkemeyer) Garbelman. Marilyn was a graduate of Waterman High School in 1955. Marilyn was a cherished and devoted member of Immanuel Lutheran Church in DeKalb for many years, giving her heart and soul to the community she loved. With unwavering dedication, she served for over 30 years heading the Braille Program, ensuring its success with her careful stewardship. She also served as the Church's financial secretary. Marilyn's servant heart extended far beyond numbers. She joyfully volunteered as a Sunday School teacher, Vacation Bible School teacher, and radio announcer sharing her faith and kindness with everyone she encountered.
