Bertha "Bert" M. Smith, known as Nanny 79, of Leland, Illinois passed away, Friday, June 21, 2024, at her home surrounded by her loving family. She was born August 2, 1944, in Joliet, IL the daughter of LaVerne Bernard and Ada Lorena (Grief) Iverson. She married Ted Owen Smith on April 30, 1966, in Somonauk, IL. She was a member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Somonauk, IL. She worked at Gord's Plastic in Sandwich, IL and Process Plastics in Montgomery, IL for several years. Bert loved the state bird also known as the Cardinal. The Cardinal has been the wings of heaven for many generations in her family. Bert now flies with her beloved ones her grandma, her mom and her sisters. So now when the family sees a Cardinal, they will know that Bert is close by. Bert also enjoyed watching the Cubs "Go Cubs Go!!" and crocheting. Most of all she loved spending time with her family and saying the Rosary daily.
